paintings by Lyn Wood lyn wood

Lyn Wood is a visual artist in a small rural town of Walker Flat South Australia. Lyn creates her works in her own private studio "Sitting Duck", that is situated right on the banks of the mighty Murray River. The ever changing Murray River and surroundings give Lyn inspiration for her works, that includes painting, drawing, printmaking, sculpture and moving image.

Lyn's ongoing interest in conveying a sense of place, the fragility of our environment, and an awareness of the natural mutability of water, are rich sources of animus for her practice. These interests have led to research and exploration into using colour and pattern, as vehicles to measure the passing of time. Her landscapes are pared down and emptied out.

Following an extensive teaching career, Lyn completed a Bachelor of Visual Art with honours at Adelaide Central School of Art in 2009. Lyn was awarded an Australia Council ArtStart Grant in 2010, and went onto be a category winner of the Fleurieu Art Prize and the Waterhouse Natural History Art Prize.

From 2013 to 2016 Lyn was employed as a part time teacher, in the Public Art Program, at the Art Gallery of South Australia. As well as being the artist in residence for 2016 at Wilderness School, Adelaide.

January 2015 Lyn Wood, Jane Hylton and Cheryl Anne Brown held an exhibition at Signal Point Gallery, Goolwa FROM HOME TO HERE. This exhibition was an enquiry into notions of home, place, journey, and inevitability.

July 2015 Lyn Wood, Cathy Frawley and Rob Johnston held an exhibition at Bay Discovery Centre , Glenelg IMPLICATED LAND. Implicated Land considered notions of Homeland, probing our uncertain past and our unfinished future.
